GRAPHIC DESIGN: Silhouette Swap

 Replaced Silhouette
a silhouette is like a shadow or the simplest outline of an object
  • step 1: Choose an image from a magazine with at least 2 clear objects-in this example : (the car and the man that was there.) One of those objects must have a familiar shape-something you would recognize just by the outline. (the man) This will be photo 1.
  • step 2: choose a contrasting photo that will be used to fill the silhouette of the object you cut out (either a contrasting colors or contrasting ideals) Use scissors for the majority of the cutting, but for intricate areas carefully use an exacto knife.  This will be photo 2.

some contrasting things would be color::
dark / light bright / dull
black and white / color warm/ cool
contrasting ideas: clean/dirty safe/dangerous
good/evil wet/dry thick/thin  and on and on….  opposites
OR
images that support an idea visually

  • step 3: write the meaning behind your art. What do these images represent? What do the colors symbolize?  At least 4 detailed sentences

  • step 4: on photo 1 cut out one of the objects very carefully. layer photo 1 over photo 2.

  • step 5: trim edges straight and evenly, matte it on a piece of coordinating colored paper.  sign the bottom.

grading on:   thoughtfulness of the idea/choices of subject effort/use of work time neatness and care of staying true to shape of silhouettes while cutting final presentation
