Humanities: African Masks

After studying about African cultures: the masks, the music, the traditions: our project was to make a mask! We took inspiration from our books and online research of all the different mask types. Leaf masks, helmet masks that cover the whole head, mourning masks-shaped like a tear, and we used many of the traditional patterns and colors.     African Mask Video

Materials we used:
  • cardboard
  • glue
  • feathers
  • paint
  • paper
  • grass
  • leaves
  • yarn
We had a great time and made a big mess!

Some brought real grass and feathers from their own animals-the real deal!
