ART: Elements of Art with a Symbol

Image
We demonstrated the different elements of art using a symbol to unite them all. The students had to section out a piece of paper, choose an image, create a template to trace and then design each box based on one of the elements of art: Line, Space, Value, Color, Texture, and Shape/Form (combined to make an even six spaces.) They could use a variety of media. Most used colored pencils, marker, crayon, or pastel.

Traditional Cherokee Pottery

Image
During our HS art classes today, we had a demonstration by two ladies from  Cherokee Heritage Center. They explained about how the Plains Indians made, decorated, fired, and used clay pottery. They brought examples and materials for us to see and create our own small pinch pots. Due to our lack of a kiln we had to use air dry clay, however it was perfect for our short class period. Smacking the pinch pot edges with a textured paddle is a quick way to add texture and design. Finished Products!

Materials we are using: cardboard-thin and corrugated tape-duct, masking, packing hot glue paper mache- newspaper+flour/salt/water paint craft gems wire x-acto knives and box blades (they learned how to use them PROPERLY!) wood/stain    other assorted items: hubcaps, leather straps, brads, etc...   some are welding metal!                The artistic process..
